UFC betting is legal in Ontario for players aged 19+ who are physically in the province, through operators registered with the AGCO and operating under an agreement with iGaming Ontario. Single-event betting became legal federally on August 27, 2021, and Ontario's regulated market opened April 4, 2022.

Timeline — UFC Betting Law in Ontario

2021

Bill C-218 receives Royal Assent and single-event sport betting becomes legal in Canada on August 27, 2021 — the federal change that made provincially regulated UFC moneylines possible [S3].

2022

Ontario opens its regulated private-operator iGaming market on April 4, 2022 under AGCO oversight. On December 1, 2022, the AGCO requires all registered operators to stop offering and accepting UFC wagers, citing betting-integrity concerns: UFC rules at the time did not prohibit all insiders — coaches, managers, handlers, trainers, medical staff — from betting on UFC events [S4].

2023

In January 2023, the AGCO reinstates UFC betting after the UFC amends its athlete conduct policy to bar insiders from wagering and engages U.S. Integrity, an AGCO-registered independent monitor, to analyze unusual wagering activity [S5].

2026

UFC markets remain available from AGCO-registered operators. iGaming Ontario reported 48 operators and 83 gaming websites in the regulated market as of September 1, 2026 [S2].

Who Regulates UFC Betting in Ontario

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is the regulator. It registers operators, sets the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming — covering player fund protection, responsible-gambling tools, fair game testing, anti-money laundering compliance, and betting-integrity requirements — and can order markets pulled when those standards are not met, as it did with UFC wagering in 2022 [S1][S4]. iGaming Ontario (iGO), a subsidiary of the AGCO, manages the commercial agreements private operators sign to take bets in the province, and publishes the official directory of regulated operators and gaming websites [S2].

The 2022–2023 UFC episode is the clearest demonstration of how the system works: when the UFC’s own rules left room for insiders to bet, the AGCO removed the market; when the UFC banned insider wagering and accepted independent integrity monitoring, the AGCO restored it [S4][S5]. A market being available at a regulated Ontario operator means it has cleared that integrity bar.

How to Verify You Are Betting Legally

1. Confirm you are eligible: You must be 19 or older and physically located in Ontario when you place a bet with an Ontario-registered operator. Operators verify both during registration and at bet time.
2. Check the operator against the iGaming Ontario directory: The official operator directory lists every regulated operator and gaming website. A site missing from the directory is not part of the Ontario regulated market, whatever its ads say [S2].
3. Understand which UFC markets are permitted: AGCO registrar standards govern which sport and event bet types operators may offer, backed by integrity-monitoring requirements. Standard markets include fight winner, method of victory, and round totals [S1].
4. Set deposit and loss limits before your first bet: Ontario operators must provide responsible-gambling tools. Setting limits up front — not after a losing streak — is the pattern safer-play research supports [S6].
