How to play roulette, in short

Roulette is a chance game: a ball drops into a numbered pocket on a spinning wheel, and the layout records selections for a number, colour, group of numbers, or odd/even. A European single-zero wheel has a lower house edge than a double-zero wheel. Every spin is independent, so no system or pattern changes the odds. Roulette is entertainment, not income.

European roulette has 37 pockets (0–36) and a single zero, giving a house edge of about 2.70%. American roulette adds a double zero (00) for 38 pockets, raising the house edge to roughly 5.26%. The extra pocket accounts for the difference in long-run mathematical return.

How the Layout Records Selections

An online roulette layout presents chip values and marked areas for number, colour, column, and range selections. More than one selection may be recorded for a spin. The dealer or software sets a cut-off after which the round is closed to further selections.

Multiple selections can be recorded for one spin; each is settled independently.

Inside and Outside Selections

Inside selections sit on the numbered grid and cover one to six numbers, with higher payouts and a lower chance of winning. Outside selections sit around the grid (red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36, columns, dozens) and cover larger number groups, with lower payouts and a higher chance of winning.

Inside = bigger payout, lower odds. Outside = smaller payout, higher odds.

Spin and Settlement

Once betting closes, the wheel spins and the ball settles in a numbered pocket. Winning bets are paid at the published payout for that bet type; losing bets are collected. Each spin is an independent event — on a certified RNG or live wheel, the previous result has no bearing on the next one.
