A prop bet is a wager on an outcome inside a game that is not the final score — e.g., "Will Auston Matthews score in the first period?" or "Will the game go to overtime?" Props can be player-specific, team-specific, or game-specific.
Also known as: proposition wager, specials
Player props are the dominant form: total points, rebounds, shots on goal, passing yards, strikeouts. Sportsbooks price hundreds of player props per major-league game.
Game props cover game-level events: first scoring play, total touchdowns, coin-toss winner (in the Super Bowl). Novelty props (national anthem length, halftime show colour) appear around major events but are restricted in Canada under AGCO rules requiring objective settlement.
Props are the natural home for same-game parlays and live betting because each prop is independent enough to combine but correlated enough to entice.
